Hello Canada!

This week Joe and myself are bringing the 2-day Turning Point event to Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I have to say that it's one of my favorite places in North America. If you've never been, you've got to go. If you already have, then come up and join us for a couple of days!

The air just feels fresher and for a San Diego-based Irishman like myself the threat of 'weather' looming is familiar and comforting - believe it or not! I do love the sunny skies of southern California but the Celt in me also loves the unpredictability of weather up here in B.C.

It's like this business of real estate...we can't ever predict it accurately but we can adjust to the conditions, dress for it, and get on with it!

It's a good life!

No news is good news

As I prepare for the Peak Experience event here in San Diego this week one thing that won't be on my mind is politics. Yes, it can feel almost impossible to shield yourself from the onslaught of reporting, analysis and endless commentary but it is not impossible to control how much of that media gets your mindshare.

Too often we fall prey to stories designed to capture our attention. They can ruin our day, throw us off course and sap the very energy we need for our work. I'm not saying 'turn off your TV/radio and opt out'...but I am saying that you need to be very careful with what you allow in. Good stuff in...good stuff out.

You're the number one asset in your business. Take care of yourself.

It's a good life!

Northern California Litmus Test

This week myself, Joe Niego and a team from Buffini & Company spent a few days in Northern California for our Turning Point event. Monterey is one of my favorite places to spend time and is as familiar to me as our home in San Diego. In the early years of Buffini & Company, this charming pacific coast town was the scene for many an event that made the difference in how we did as a company. In a way, it became our litmus test for how the country was doing as a whole.

And things haven't changed too much throughout the years.

If the fired-up energy, great attitude and on point focus of this week's audience is anything to go by, America's back! And it's ready to work. As Joe and I shared content through the two days of the event, we were both struck by how positive and upbeat the crowd was. Our Members are typically a pretty positive lot anyway...but it was inspiring to see the osmosis happen with those new faces who were joining us for the first time. We had a great time with you guys. And we're looking forward to doing it all again in Vancouver in May.

It's a good life!

The Peak Experience

Joe Niego and myself are putting the finishing touches to this year's Peak Experience. Every year this is my favorite event to attend. I always look forward to it and without fail I have an experience or breakthrough that has a long-lasting impact on my life or on our business.

We develop content and design the event in such a way that attendees experience positive, accelerated change and growth - and I can tell you, this year will be no different. You'll discover how to run your business at an elite level while you synergize and connect with the industry's best.

The event is not for everyone and we only have a few seats left so check it out and see if three days in an intimate setting with Joe Niego, myself and some special guests is for you!

It's a good life!

March Madness

No matter what your political inclinations, who you'd like to see lead the country, or how much today's news is either irritating or delighting you, please don't forget that your job is to do your job. Not theirs. Focus on positive change in your life or business, keep your head down and work hard, and have faith that at the end of the day, the life you build for youself is the one you get to enjoy.

It's a good life!

Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy business!

Many times in my career I have faced periods of increased stress and activity. It’s the nature of this business. While demands on my time and energy may have increased, one thing that may not have always been in tandem was an insistence on carving out periods of rest to compensate.

All too often the tyranny of the urgent won over and I kept going past when I should have. We’ve all heard the phrase “Burning the candle at both ends.” It resonates because we’ve all taken on too much and overburdened ourselves at some time or another.

You may have heard me speak about the book, The Power of Full Engagement by Tony Schwartz. Tony and I have worked together on projects over the years and this book is a great reminder of one of the fundamentals: You cannot maintain a peak state at all times. Work hard, rest and recover, then work hard again. It's a simple premise yet one we all miss from time to time!

As a businessperson you have the most important asset to care for - yourself! You are the CEO, CFO and COO of your business and, as such, you must protect the primary asset. Your lead-generation is going to feel laborious if you are low on energy. How can you effectively work on Sales & Marketing if you are not feeling at the top of your game?

Like I said, I have let the health focus slip myself many times. But the key is to get back on the horse and start to implement healthy habits. Do one thing today to move toward a healthier you. Set one goal. Go for a short walk. Turn off the TV and work on your goals. There’s always something we can do to further our health goals. Which ultimately furthers our business ones.

It’s a good life!

The tests we face

If a challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn then the last couple of years have been quite the schooling for all of us. We’ve seen the economy take a beating, the industry change, and our net worth fall – all in a relatively short period of time. Real estate and lending – in fact small businesses in general – look very different than they did a few years ago.

But whether we like it or not, this is all part of life. One thing we know deep down is that things don't stay the same. There are peaks and valleys, seasons, lulls, periods of intensity. Adversity is a part of life and we all face many tests of both our character and our competence. The key is how we meet those tests.

Any of you who have attended our Peak Performers event each May have heard me talk about purpose. I believe it is key in finding ‘true north’ in regard to attitude and the ability to deal with challenges. I believe that working on, and discovering your purpose brings decisiveness, personal conviction and the ability to ignore negativity and focus on the positive. It fosters confidence in what the future holds.

I want to stay on purpose. I want to be confident in the future. I want to stay true to my personal convictions. Are you with me?

It’s a good life!
